Description:

Casting "Run for your Wife". Rehearsals begin Jan. 4; runs five performances/wk. (Thu.-Sun.).

John Smith: male, 28-40, taxi driver that has two wives, one in each town, the protagonist, described as “ordinary,” but must have great charm, wit, and a sense of urgency without being manic, requires crack comic timing and a gift for physical comedy;

Stanley Gardner: male, 28-40, John’s unemployed best friend and neighbor, the comic sidekick, bright energy, says the wrong thing under pressure with an attempt to “help,” well-meaning but excitable, excellent physical comedian needed;

Barbara Smith: female, late 20s-30s, John’s wife in Streatham, cute, frisky, scantily clad kitty, actress must have terrific comic timing, the physical requirements are less important than the acting ability, which is paramount;

Mary Smith: female, late 20s-30s, John’s wife in Wimbledon, nurturer, can be firm with her husband, responsible, doting, but eminently attractive and likable;

Detective Sergeant Troughton: male (but also might consider casting this role as a woman if the actress is convincing), 35-45, slightly severe, proper detective, not a pushover, but not belligerent either, keeps the pressure on our hero;

Detective Sergeant Porterhouse: male, 40s-50s, middle-aged family man, diplomatic, unaware of how funny he is;

Bobby Franklyn: male, 20s-50s, dress designer, very effeminate, outrageous, but only when justified by the situation, entirely serious about what he does, acting skill is paramount, not simply attitude, think a British Roger Debris from The Producers.

Casting director’s note: “All performers must have excellent comic timing.” Performers of all ethnicities are strongly encouraged to attend.”

Equity principal auditions will be held Nov. 21, 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. & 2:30-6 p.m. Prepare a brief comic monologue. Casting director states: “All characters speak in British dialect; specifically, RP. The ‘Britishness’ of the show is an essential component of its humor. Don’t worry if it’s not perfect, but we’d like to see if auditionees can get the basic sounds and music of it.” $371 min./wk., plus local round-trip transportation provided during tech and run. Equity LOA Contract.
