Award Winning Movies Filmed in Alaska Provide A
Boost To The Local Economy

The excitement stirs inside your body as you sit in your favorite section of the movie theater. You watch the screen patiently as the previews of the upcoming movies roll through. After about 3 or 4 trailers the images for the movie house dash across the screen, and it's almost time for the feature you came to see.

The beginning scene opens up into to a beautiful view of the Jersey water's edge. You can hear the thunderous rolls of the ocean as it crashes up against the shore. The sun in the eastern sky glimmers off the ocean and for a brief moment there is a feeling of peace and tranquility.

This description depicts the opening scene for the movie "Dogma." That one scene was filmed on location at the New Jersey seaboard. Like many other movies Dogma's filming locations spanned many cities in the United States. No longer are movies limited in where they are filmed, they are now made in different locations across the world.

This ability to move film crews and equipment to practically any place in the world has added to the power and richness of the movies we see. It has also provided great benefits for the local economy of the filming location. More revenue for industries that support the production enters into the economy. Jobs are created for movie extras as well as the other people needed to make the movie. It's really a win/win situation for everyone involved.

There have been some great films produced across the United States and across the world. The following list details 10 award winning movies produced in the great state of Alaska.
